How Houseparty boosted conversions and push opt-in conversions with this A/B test on their onboarding flow

Before, the app would ask for permissions without any context as to why. Users were more inclined to hit “Don’t Allow” out of habit. The updated versions gives users a message before the opt-in pop-up occurs so they understand why providing access is important.

Houseparty ran an A/B test on their onboarding flow in order to improve push notification opt-in rates. With different messaging, imagery, they were able to boost their opt-in rates by 9% and contact list access by 15%

Why we think this A/B test example is good:

By testing their messaging, order and imagery within their onboarding flow, they’re able to better engage and retain their users with personalized notifications to their user base by alerting users in real-time who is starting a live video chat.
