The conversion rate is a figure that measures how many sales occur from each visit to an ecommerce site, how many visitors are converted into customers. For example, if an ecommerce site receives 100 visitors in a month and has 25 sales, the conversion rate would be 25 divided by 100, or 25%.

Conversions can be very specific such as when a customer buys a product, or very general such as when they add you to their email list. The terms conversion and conversion rate are often used interchangeably, but conversion rate is a more accurate term because it specifically measures the rate at which a particular goal is converted.
